1. Japandi Design

‘Japandi’ is a portmanteau of Japanese + Scandinavian. It perfectly combines the aesthetics and functionality of Japanese minimalism and Scandi simplicity. With clean lines, neutral colour palettes, and emphasis on natural materials, Japandi design is all about creating a serene and uncluttered environment. You can easily incorporate Japandi interior style into your home whether you’re building from scratch, renovating or just restyling.

2. Biophilic Design Trend

Interior design trend number two for 2024 is without a doubt — the biophilic design. What is it exactly? It’s the style of designing homes with nature in mind, either through the architecture and building itself, or creating opportunities to incorporate nature and living elements that flows seamlessly within or around the home.

We often talk about how a connection to nature at home is important for wellness, and this interior design trend takes it to a new level. From incorporating skylights and floor-to-ceiling windows to capture a green view of natural light and gardens to designing an internal courtyard around a centuries-old tree, the possibilities are endless for biophilic design in 2024.

3. Soft Curves

5. Natural Stone + Porcelain Benchtops

For years, engineered stone benchtops have been one of the most utilised and cost-effective stone options in the interior design and building industry.

Recently, an Australia-wide ban means that 2024 will see builders, renovators and DIY design enthusiasts looking for benchtop alternatives. Z+S predicts that, despite the additional cost, porcelain and natural stone benchtops will rise in popularity, while new engineered silica-free options will likely be developed over the coming years.
