Same-Same But Different

The simplest way to create a tile feature in your bathroom is by using the same colour tile throughout but varying the size. By alternating the tile size or laying pattern, you can create a feature whilst keeping the space minimal and matchy-matchy.

It’s a simple yet very effective way to create interest and variation, and you’re guaranteed your tiles will pair perfectly.

Just Add Texture and Pattern…

But why stop at different-sized tiles? Many tile collections have a range of textured options in any given colour. These can be used to add a patterned, textured feature to accompany your regular, flat-finish tiles.

This is by far our favourite way to add a feature, whilst keeping the space beautifully cohesive.

In our Contemporary Coastal project, we used 400mm x 800mm flat, honed finish tiles on the bathroom floor and the majority of walls, and created a feature wall with 200mm x 800mm Chevron patterned tiles in the shower and shower niche.

Highlight Your Feature

When using textured tiles, there’s no better way to highlight the pattern than by using light. We integrated skylights above our textured feature walls to accentuate the pattern and shadows by day, whilst an LED strip integrated within our shower niche provides shadow play by night. Adding a natural or artificial light source that floods light up or down your textured feature wall will amplify the pattern within your tile.

The Finishing Touches

Bathrooms are amongst the most expensive of rooms when building or renovating homes, so it’s important to consider the little details to maximise your space and investment. Mitres are one of these details. Opt for a mitre on any external tiled corners like the shelf and niche finish here, rather than installing a trim.

So there you have it, a feature tile without re-inventing the wheel. Seamless and cohesive: the Same-Same But Different tiled feature wall is the ultimate way to create a sophisticated and understated statement in your new bathroom.
