Creating A Designer Look In Your Bathroom With Towel Rail Heights
Looking to create a designer bathroom on a budget? Some strategically planned towel rail heights is key.
And grouping three towel rails together with carefully considered spacing does just that. It’s simple, inexpensive and really takes your bathroom design to the next level.

This bathroom towel rack idea is so effective in creating that interior designed bathroom look for one simple reason: grouping your towel rails provides visual balance on the wall… not to mention valuable drying space. Opt for single heated rails if your budget allows, or standard towel rails for just as much aesthetic impact.
Using towel rail colours that pop and contrast with your bathroom tiles, like these black rails on white or light tiles, adds even more impact to your design.
Z+S Tip • Ensure your towel rail is colour-matched to your tapware to create a cohesive bathroom colour scheme.

Towel Rail Position
First things first, you’ll need to choose the position of your bathroom towel rails before or at frame stage of your build or renovation. This will allow reinforcement or blocks to be installed within the wall at your towel rail height, to support the weight of your towel rails. Think of these in-wall blocks as the anchor for your towel rails, providing a solid fixing point.
Z+S Tip • Take a photo and record your rail heights to ensure there is no guesswork after the wall is lined or tiled. In recording your heights, ensure you allow for any changes in floor level if the area is yet to be screeded or tiled.
But now for the most important detail - how far apart do you install your rails?
There are no hard and fast rules, however, 270mm - 300mm spacing works well. Pictured below, our Scandi Style Ensuite Bathroom features bathroom towel rails installed 270mm apart. These 800mm wide towel rails provide ample width for drying two large towels side by side.
Z+S Tip • You’ll need 800mm or 900mm wide towel rails to provide enough space to dry two towels side by side. The third rail is the perfect place to hang a floor mat to dry.
But why stop at three? Four or five towel drying rails grouped together look equally good — and are the ultimate solution for a bathroom design where there are two or more users.
So what do you think? Have we convinced you to add a third towel rail in your new bathroom design?
